 In May and June, when the water melts up at Wolf Creek Ski Area and the surrounding San Juan Mountains, the San Juan River grows in size and adventurers come from far and wide to the excellent whitewater rafting. In the later parts of the summer, when the powerful Colorado suns warms the town, the water levels drop and the San Juan River is perfect for a tube ride trough town.  Whitewater rafting tours can be scheduled and kayaks and tubes can be rented in numerous places in Pagosa Springs.
